In the comments of this previous post, Jarno from the Netherlands told us how he transported his Christmas tree: in the child trailer behind his bicycle. Does anyone have more suggestions how to transport Christmas trees?

Tree transport (2)
In the comments of this previous post, Jarno from the Netherlands told us how he transported his Christmas tree: in the child trailer behind his bicycle. Does anyone have more suggestions how to transport Christmas trees?

Packaging as finger nails
'My alarm didn't go off this morning', Guido from Amsterdam wrote us a couple of days ago. 'The reason was that the battery of my mobile phone was empty. To recharge it, I have to remove a little thing on the side of the phone. Removing that small thing requires sharp nails, which I don't have, since I'm an obsessive nail biter. So I found myself removing the thing with the sharp side of a strip of Rennie's.' Friday, December 18, 2009
Clock tower
Please welcome the first Unintended Use of clock towers in the Museum. 'Two daring young lovers have been caught having sex at the top of Sydney's historic clock tower', the Daily Telegraph from Australia recently wrote. 'Extraordinary pictures (...) show the couple apparently giving each other a number of very special hugs against the balcony underneath the giant clock across the road from Broadway Shopping Centre, near the University of Sydney, at 3.30pm on Friday.'

Growing breasts
The curator is not sure: rapidly growing breasts or unintended use of movie editing software? (Or is movie editing software actually designed to increase breasts?)
Slovenian shopping
The curator just loves the fact that so many people throw their crazy pictures on the internet. Like this one by Landii from Zagreb, Croatia. He shows that a) you can buy women in supermarkets in Slovenia (which would mean that this picture does not contain Unintended Use) or b) that Slovenian shopping carts can be used for so much more than shopping...

Tree transport
Yes, the Museum of Unintended Use is the proud owner of a Christmas tree now. And how did the staff transport it to the museum lobby?

Pepsi pesticide
Fascinating quote from this farmer from Uttar Pradesh, India: 'Someone told us that soft drinks contain pesticides. So we started using this, it seems to be working.'

Hit with a statuette
News flash! 'Italy's prime minister was hit in the face and knocked to the ground by a man who, according to reports, either hurled a punch or a miniature metal souvenir of Milan's cathedral, the Duomo', according to the Guardian.

Unintended becomes intended
The curator is sad. One of his favourite examples of unintended use appears te be a forgery. A visitor wrote in the comments that the handcuffs pictured above are in fact sold as bicycle locks. At the same time, it shows us an interesting phenomenon: unintended use can become intended use. The production of handcuff-like bicycle locks must have started after someone unintendedly used real handcuffs as a bicycle lock. Who would that be?

Food meets frisbee
'If you didn't already know', Jesse White wrote, 'there are millions of ways to use frisbees besides throwing! This picture is from last year when I was living and studying in the Netherlands. It was during a beach picnic at Zandvoort.'

Statue after shower
A statue at the Nassaukade in Amsterdam, a couple of months ago. 'It was probably dressed up like this by students', writes Ronald Frederick. 'I took this picture during the student introduction week at University of Amsterdam.'

Don't steal my toilet paper!
Just a picture, found on the web. The details are unknown to the curator. But probably it was taken in a place where many rolls of toilet paper were stolen. Where would that be? A university? A centre for homeless people? (Thanks Pritt for tipping us.)

Street View
Unintended Use is everywhere. Even at Google Street View. When the curator was digitally travelling through the quarter in which the Museum is located, he found the picture above. Aren't those the same table legs as these?

Kitchen roller
'Half a year ago, we bought a new house', write Jeroen and Sarah from Amsterdam. 'After we painted the kitchen walls, we had a paint roller in one hand, and a roll of kitchen paper in the other. It was love at first sight! And it wasn't hard to find a name for this couple: a kitchen roller.'

Rake meets Renault
He had a serious problem, Michel Langendijk from Amsterdam. On hot days, a button on the dashboard of his Renault just popped out, turning on the alarm lights. He tried to 'repair' it with duct tape, but that didn't work. Then he found a better solution: a garden rake.
